Potash Mobilizing Bacteria (KMB) are specialized soil microbes that solubilize fixed potassium (K) in soils, converting insoluble K-minerals into plant-available forms. Formulated at 1x108 cells/ml, they enhance K uptake, improve crop quality, and reduce synthetic potash fertilizer dependency.
Product Specifications
-
CFU: 1x108 cells/ml
-
Active Content: Strains like Frateuria aurantia (formerly Bacillus edaphicus), Bacillus mucilaginosus potash mobilizing bacteria
-
Carrier: Liquid formula
Usage Instructions
-
Dosage: 2 ltr/acre mixed with 200 L water or compost.
-
Timing: Apply at sowing/transplanting; reapply at peak vegetative stage.
-
Primary Action: Solubilizes silicate minerals (e.g., orthoclase, biotite) to release K⁺ ions.
-
Method:
-
Soil: Blend with FYM/compost (1 kg/100 kg) and broadcast.
-
Seeds: Treat with 20 ml/kg slurry (use 10% starch adhesive).
-
-
Frequency: 2 applications per season (avoid waterlogged/acidic soils < pH 5.5).
-
Compatibility: Synergistic with PSB and Azotobacter; avoid chemical K-fertilizers for 20 days.
-
Activation: Requires silica-rich soils; produces organic acids (oxalic/citric) for K-mobilization.
-
Safety: Non-toxic to plants, soil fauna, or humans.
Suitable Crops
-
Cereals: Rice (reduces "lodging"), Wheat (improves grain weight)
-
Fruits: Banana (enhances bunch size), Grapes (increases Brix)
-
Vegetables: Potato (boosts tuber size), Tomato (improves firmness)
-
Cash Crops: Sugarcane (↑ sucrose content), Cotton (↑ boll weight)
-
Legumes: Soybean (improves pod filling), Groundnut
Storage Instructions
-
Temperature: 15–25°C (critical; avoid refrigeration or >30°C).
-
Packaging: Can
-
Shelf Life: 8 months
-
Precautions: Store in dark, dry conditions; discard if clumped or moldy.
Key Advantage
Silicate-Dissolving Efficiency:
Mobilizes 45–60 kg K₂O/ha/season from fixed soil reserves, increasing K-use efficiency by 30–50% in K-fixing soils (ICAR data). Reduces fruit cracking in tomatoes/pomegranates by improving cell wall strength.
