Verticillium Lecanii for Coconut – Control Rugose Spiraling Whitefly & Mealybugs
Share
Have you noticed white, waxy insects flying up from your coconut fronds when you shake them? That’s the Rugose Spiraling Whitefly (RSW) – an invasive pest that has spread across Kerala. It sucks sap from under the leaves, causing yellowing, sooty mould, and reduced nut yield. Mealybugs and scale insects add to the damage.
Chemical sprays often fail because whiteflies hide under leaves and develop resistance. Verticillium lecanii is the natural answer.
This fungus specifically targets whiteflies, mealybugs, and scale insects. Its spores land on the pest, germinate, and grow inside, killing it within days. Then it produces more spores to infect nearby pests – a self‑perpetuating cycle of control.
How to apply Verticillium on coconut:
For soil application (long‑term prevention):
-
Take 200‑250g of Bactostore’s Verticillium powder per adult palm
-
Mix with 20‑25 kg well‑decomposed FYM or cow dung
-
Apply in a 1.5‑2 metre basin around the palm
-
Do this twice a year – pre‑monsoon (April‑May) and post‑monsoon (September‑October)
For foliar spray (active infestation):
-
For liquid: Mix 2‑5 ml in 1 litre of water
-
For powder: Mix 5‑10g in 1 litre of water, add 2 kg jaggery per acre, let sit overnight
-
Spray on both sides of fronds, especially the underside
-
Repeat every 10‑15 days during active infestation
Farmer testimonial:
“The Rugose Spiraling Whitefly was destroying my coconut garden. After using Bactostore Verticillium spray every 20 days, the whitefly population dropped by 80%. My coconuts are now healthy.” – Vijayan, Alappuzha.
