Trichoderma for Coconut – Control Ganoderma Root Rot & Stem Bleeding

You’ve seen it – a mature coconut palm suddenly wilts, fronds turn yellow, and dark liquid oozes from the trunk. Soon the palm is dead. That’s Ganoderma root rot and stem bleeding – two of the most feared coconut diseases in Kollam. Once the fungus enters the wood, chemical treatments are useless.

Trichoderma is the proven, organic rescue.

What the research says:
The Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) has extensively studied Trichoderma for coconut disease management. A talc‑based formulation of Trichoderma harzianum applied with neem cake or FYM reduced disease index dramatically. Trichoderma viride applied in coconut basins can survive for more than a year, providing long‑term protection.

How to apply Trichoderma on coconut:

For adult palms (preventive and curative):

  • Take 200‑250g of Bactostore’s Trichoderma powder (or 200‑250 ml liquid)

  • Mix with 20‑25 kg of well‑decomposed FYM or cow dung

  • Apply in a 1.5‑2 metre basin around the palm, 15‑20 cm from the trunk

  • Cover lightly with soil

  • Apply twice a year – pre‑monsoon (April‑May) and post‑monsoon (September‑October)

For active stem bleeding (emergency treatment):

  • Scrape the bleeding area to remove loose material

  • Make a paste of 100g Trichoderma powder in 500 ml water

  • Apply the paste on the wound and cover with mud

  • Repeat after 15 days

Farmer testimonial:

“My coconut garden had severe stem bleeding. I used Bactostore Trichoderma powder with FYM in the basin. The bleeding stopped, and the palm recovered. My MOP usage has also gone down.” – Sathyan, Kollam.
