Metarhizium anisopliae for Vegetables & Paddy – Control Root Grubs, Cutworms & Termites
Share
Kollam’s vegetable farmers grow brinjal, tomato, chilli, okra, and beans. Paddy is cultivated in low‑lying areas. But soil pests – root grubs, cutworms, and termites – cause huge losses. Cutworms cut seedlings at the base overnight. Root grubs feed on roots, causing wilting. Termites attack stems. In paddy, plant hoppers and termites reduce yields dramatically.
Metarhizium anisopliae is your organic shield against soil pests.
How Metarhizium works: The fungus produces microscopic spores that stay in the soil. When a root grub, cutworm, termite, or plant hopper comes into contact with these spores, they germinate, penetrate the pest’s body, and grow inside, killing it within 3‑7 days. The green spores produced on the dead pest spread to other pests, creating a self‑perpetuating cycle of control.
How to apply Metarhizium for vegetables:
Soil application at land preparation (for whole field):
-
Mix 1‑2 kg of Bactostore’s Metarhizium powder (or 1‑2 litres liquid) with 100‑200 kg well‑decomposed FYM per acre
-
Broadcast evenly during land preparation and incorporate into topsoil
Nursery bed drench (to protect seedlings from cutworms and grubs):
-
Mix 5g of powder (or 5 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Drench the nursery bed soil before sowing seeds
Root dip for seedlings (before transplanting):
-
Mix 10g of powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Dip the roots of seedlings for 10 minutes before transplanting
Soil drench for established plants (every 2‑3 months):
-
Mix 100‑200g of powder (or 100‑200 ml liquid) in 10 litres of water
-
Drench around the root zone of each plant (100‑200 ml per plant)
How to apply Metarhizium for paddy:
Seed treatment (most effective for paddy):
-
Take 100g of Bactostore’s Metarhizium powder (or 100 ml liquid)
-
Mix with enough water to coat 10 kg of paddy seeds
-
Stir evenly, shade dry for 30 minutes, then sow
Soil application (for fields with history of termite or hopper infestation):
-
Mix 1‑2 kg of Metarhizium powder with 100‑200 kg FYM per acre
-
Broadcast during the last ploughing and incorporate into soil
For plant hoppers during crop growth:
-
Mix 2‑5 ml of liquid per litre of water (or 5‑10g powder)
-
Spray on the lower parts of the plants where hoppers hide
-
Apply in early morning or late evening
-
Repeat every 10‑15 days
Results: Healthier roots, fewer plant losses, higher yields, and organic, residue‑free produce.
