Metarhizium anisopliae – Complete Bio Insecticide for Grubs, Borers & Broad Pest Control
Share
Metarhizium anisopliae is an entomopathogenic fungus – a natural bio‑insecticide that infects and kills a wide range of soil‑dwelling and foliar pests. It is especially effective against root grubs (the most destructive pest of cardamom in Idukki), borers (stem borer, capsule borer, panicle borer), thrips, termites, white grubs, weevils, beetles, and grasshoppers. When spores come in contact with an insect, they germinate, penetrate the cuticle, and grow inside the body, producing toxins called destruxins. The insect stops feeding within 24‑48 hours and dies within 3‑7 days. After death, green mold appears on the dead insect – giving Metarhizium the name "green muscardine fungus." It is 100% organic, leaves zero chemical residues – perfect for Idukki's export‑oriented cardamom and pepper – and is compatible with neem oil and other biopesticides. KVK Idukki recommends Metarhizium for cardamom root grub control at 25g per plant mixed with cow dung. The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) also recommends soil drenching with Metarhizium formulations for root grub management.
