Acetobacter spp. (primarily Acetobacter diazotrophicus) are nitrogen-fixing, acetic acid bacteria that colonize sugar-rich crops, fixing atmospheric nitrogen (N₂) and producing growth-promoting compounds. Formulated at 5 × 10⁷ CFU/g on a carrier, they enhance yield and reduce synthetic N requirements in specific crops.
Product Specifications
-
CFU: 5 × 10⁷ per gram (50 million viable cells/g)
-
Active Content: Live cells of Acetobacter diazotrophicus (or A. aceti)
-
Carrier: Lignite powder or talc (pH 4.5–6.0 for acid tolerance)
Usage Instructions
-
Dosage: 1–1.5 kg/acre mixed with 200 L water or compost.
-
Timing: Apply at planting/settling; reapply at tillering (sugarcane) or fruit set (pineapple).
-
Primary Action: Fixes N₂ in sucrose-rich tissues; solubilizes P/K; produces IAA (auxin).
-
Method:
-
Soil: Mix with farmyard manure (1 kg/100 kg) and apply near roots.
-
Setts/Seedlings: Dip in 20 g/L slurry for 30 minutes pre-planting.
-
-
Frequency: 2 applications per crop cycle (avoid alkaline/waterlogged soils).
-
Compatibility: Compatible with Azospirillum; avoid copper-based fungicides and high-N fertilizers.
-
Activation: Thrives in high-sugar exudates (pH 5.0–6.0); suppresses Leifsonia xyli (ratoon stunting disease).
-
Safety: Non-pathogenic; safe for soil fauna.
Suitable Crops
-
Sugarcane (core host: fixes 30–60 kg N/ha)
-
Sweet Sorghum (enhances juice sugar content)
-
Pineapple (improves fruit size/Brix)
-
Coffee (associates with roots in acidic soils)
-
Rice (flood-tolerant strains for lowland varieties)
Storage Instructions
-
Temperature: 15–25°C (critical; refrigeration kills acidophiles).
-
Packaging: Breathable, UV-resistant polybags (O₂-dependent metabolism).
-
Shelf Life: 6 months (extendable to 9 months with charcoal carrier).
-
Precautions: Store in dark, dry conditions; discard if pH >7.0 or alcoholic odor develops.
Key Advantage
Sucrose-Linked Nitrogen Fixation:
Uniquely fixes N₂ inside plant tissues (not just rhizosphere), providing 20–40% of crop N needs in sugarcane while producing gibberellins that increase millable cane yield by 15–25% (IISR trials).
