Trichoderma for Potato Soil-Borne Diseases in Jharkhand | Biological Biofungicide Supplier India

Potato is an important vegetable and commercial crop cultivated in different agricultural regions of Jharkhand. Because the developing root system and tubers remain in direct contact with soil, maintaining a healthy soil and root-zone environment is an important component of potato production.

Several soil-associated pathogens can contribute to seed-piece decay, root damage, stem-base problems, poor plant establishment and tuber disease. Disease expression depends on the pathogen involved, planting material, soil moisture, temperature, drainage, crop history and other field conditions.

Beneficial fungi such as Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma asperellum can be incorporated into an Integrated Disease Management (IDM) program for biological management of certain susceptible soil-borne fungal pathogens.

Trichoderma for Potato Root-Zone Management

Trichoderma spp. are beneficial fungi capable of establishing in suitable soil and rhizosphere environments.

When viable Trichoderma propagules are introduced into the potato root zone, they can participate in microbial interactions around developing roots.

Establishing beneficial microorganisms within this environment can form part of a preventive biological soil-health program.

Trichoderma should not be considered a universal treatment for every potato disease because potato soil and tuber diseases can be caused by different fungi, oomycetes, bacteria and other organisms.

Trichoderma & Rhizoctonia-Associated Problems

Rhizoctonia solani is one of the important soil-associated fungal pathogens of potato and can be associated with problems such as stem canker and black scurf.

Selected Trichoderma strains may be incorporated into an integrated biological management program where susceptible Rhizoctonia populations are a concern.

This should be combined with appropriate planting material selection, crop rotation, field sanitation and other recommended disease-management practices.

Trichoderma with Pseudomonas & Bacillus

Other beneficial microorganisms including Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis may also be incorporated separately into integrated potato root and soil-health programs where appropriate.

Each microorganism has different biological characteristics, and combinations should be selected according to compatibility and the specific crop-management objective.

Integrated Potato Soil Disease Management

A comprehensive program can combine healthy planting material, correct disease diagnosis, Trichoderma application where appropriate, crop rotation, field sanitation, organic matter management, balanced nutrition, suitable irrigation, good drainage and regular crop monitoring.

No single microbial product should be expected to manage every potato soil-borne disease.

Peak Laboratories manufactures and supplies Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and other beneficial microbial formulations in suitable liquid and powder forms for agricultural use.

Products are available for potato farmers, FPOs, farmer groups, agricultural dealers, distributors, commercial farms, institutional buyers and bulk buyers throughout Jharkhand and India.
