Trichoderma for Banana Root Disease Management in Assam | Biological Biofungicide Supplier India

Banana cultivation in Assam takes place under warm, humid and high-rainfall conditions. These conditions support rapid crop growth but can also create favorable environments for certain soil-borne pathogens, particularly where drainage is poor, infected planting material is used or susceptible crops are repeatedly cultivated.

Trichoderma spp. are beneficial fungi widely used in biological agriculture for root-zone management and suppression of certain soil-borne fungal pathogens. Species such as Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma asperellum can be incorporated into Integrated Disease Management (IDM) programs for banana.

Peak Laboratories, India manufactures Trichoderma microbial formulations for agricultural and horticultural applications, including commercial banana cultivation.

Why Trichoderma for Banana?

Banana develops an extensive root system from the underground corm. Healthy roots are essential for nutrient uptake, water absorption, plant anchorage and development of a productive crop.

Soil-borne pathogens can interfere with this root system.

Selected Trichoderma strains can colonize the rhizosphere and compete with undesirable fungi for space and nutrients. Depending on the strain, Trichoderma may also produce enzymes and metabolites associated with antagonistic activity.

Trichoderma and Fusarium in Banana

Fusarium wilt is one of the most important diseases associated with banana production globally.

Trichoderma has been widely investigated as a biological component of Fusarium-management programs. Certain strains may antagonize Fusarium through microbial competition, mycoparasitism and production of biologically active metabolites.

However, Trichoderma should not be presented as a guaranteed cure for Fusarium wilt.

Where Fusarium wilt is suspected, management should include disease diagnosis, clean planting material, sanitation, movement control of contaminated soil and planting material, drainage management and other recommended phytosanitary practices.

Preventive Root-Zone Management

Trichoderma generally provides the greatest value when introduced before severe root and rhizome damage develops.

Preventive application allows the beneficial fungus an opportunity to establish itself in the root-zone environment.

For new banana plantations, biological root management can begin during planting. For established plantations, periodic root-zone applications may be incorporated into the farm's broader disease-management program.

Trichoderma + Pseudomonas fluorescens

Pseudomonas fluorescens is a beneficial PGPR used in biological root-zone and disease-management programs.

Trichoderma and Pseudomonas can provide complementary microbial functions because one is a beneficial fungus and the other is a beneficial bacterium.

Both may be incorporated into a structured banana program where appropriate.

Concentrated microbial formulations should not automatically be tank mixed unless compatibility has been established.

Trichoderma + Bacillus subtilis

Bacillus subtilis is another beneficial bacterium used in microbial crop-management programs.

A banana biological program may therefore include Trichoderma, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis according to the target problem and application strategy.

More microorganisms do not automatically mean greater disease control. Strain quality, viable count, application timing and environmental conditions remain critical.

Trichoderma with Biofertilizers

Banana farmers may combine root-health programs with microbial nutrient-management products such as Azotobacter, PSB, KMB, ZSB and NPK microbial consortia.

Biofertilizers primarily support nutrient cycling, while Trichoderma is primarily used for biological soil and root-zone management.

These approaches can be integrated into a broader soil-health program.

Formulations for Banana Farms

Peak Laboratories manufactures Trichoderma formulations for agricultural use.

Depending on commercial requirements, formulations may include liquid Trichoderma, talc-based wettable powder and water-soluble/dextrose-based microbial powder.

Products can be supplied for banana growers, commercial plantations, FPOs, agricultural dealers, distributors and bulk buyers.
