Trichoderma for Banana
Share
Trichoderma (T. viride or T. harzianum) is a beneficial fungus that protects banana from Panama wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense), root rot, and corm rot. It colonizes roots and produces antibiotics that kill soil pathogens.
How to use in banana:
-
Sucker / tissue culture plant treatment: Dip roots and corm in Trichoderma solution (20 g powder or 20 ml liquid per litre water) for 15 minutes before planting.
-
Soil application: Mix 2.5–5 kg powder with 500 kg well‑decomposed FYM and apply per acre at planting, then again at 3 and 6 months.
-
Drench: Mix 1–2 L liquid or 1 kg powder in 200 L water and pour around pseudostem.
Best time: At planting, then every 3 months. Avoid chemical fungicides.
