Streptomyces Lydicus for Mango Root Health

Streptomyces Lydicus for Mango Root Health

Healthy roots are the foundation of every productive mango orchard. Regardless of variety or production system, the root system determines how efficiently a tree absorbs water, nutrients, and beneficial microorganisms from the soil. Weak or damaged roots can limit vegetative growth, reduce flowering, increase fruit drop, and make trees more susceptible to environmental stress and soil-borne diseases. Streptomyces lydicus is a beneficial soil bacterium and biological biofungicide that helps maintain a healthy rhizosphere while supporting vigorous root development throughout the life of the mango tree.

Following application through soil drenching, fertigation, or drip irrigation, Streptomyces lydicus rapidly colonizes the root zone surrounding feeder roots. It competes with harmful fungi for nutrients and colonization sites while producing naturally occurring antimicrobial metabolites that help suppress important soil-borne pathogens including Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Pythium, and Phytophthora. This biological activity helps preserve healthy feeder roots and creates an environment where beneficial microorganisms can thrive.

A healthy root system absorbs nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, boron, iron, and other essential nutrients more efficiently. Improved nutrient uptake supports vigorous vegetative growth, balanced canopy development, healthy flowering, stronger fruit retention, improved fruit size, superior fruit quality, and better fertilizer use efficiency. Well-developed roots also improve drought tolerance, recovery after heavy rainfall, and resilience to environmental stress, helping maintain stable orchard productivity over many years.

For maximum root health, Streptomyces lydicus should be incorporated into an integrated biological soil management program. It is highly compatible with Trichoderma, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus velezensis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Azotobacter, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium mobilizing bacteria (KMB), zinc-solubilizing bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi, Paecilomyces lilacinus, compost, vermicompost, and well-decomposed organic manures. Together, these beneficial microorganisms improve microbial diversity, nutrient cycling, soil fertility, and long-term rhizosphere stability.

Commercial mango growers increasingly invest in biological root health programs because healthy roots directly influence orchard productivity and profitability. By strengthening the rhizosphere, supporting beneficial microorganisms, improving nutrient efficiency, and helping suppress soil-borne fungal pathogens, Streptomyces lydicus contributes to healthier trees, higher yields, improved fruit quality, and sustainable mango cultivation. It is suitable for conventional, integrated, organic, regenerative, and export-oriented mango production systems.
