Pseudomonas for Tomato and Chilli Crops

🌿 Benefits of Using Pseudomonas fluorescens

  • Fights Diseases Naturally: This beneficial bacteria fights harmful soil-borne and seed-borne fungi and bacteria. It produces natural antibiotics that kill pathogens and starve them by taking over their food supply.

  • Promotes Strong, Healthy Growth: It acts as a growth promoter, helping with faster seed germination and stronger seedlings. This leads to healthier plants with higher yields.

  • Strengthens Plant Immunity: It triggers "induced systemic resistance" (ISR), which is like a vaccination that boosts the plant's own defenses against a wide range of diseases.

  • Increases Access to Nutrients: It helps the root system absorb more nutrients from the soil, leading to more vigorous and productive plants.

🍅🌶️ Diseases It Controls in Tomato & Chilli

Here is a breakdown of the specific diseases this bio-fungicide combats:

Crop Disease Pathogen
Tomato Wilt Fusarium oxysporum
Bacterial Wilt Ralstonia solanacearum
Damping Off (in seedlings) Pythium aphanidermatum
Chilli Damping Off Pythium aphanidermatum
Phytophthora Blight Phytophthora capsici
Fruit Rot / Dieback Colletotrichum capsici
Both Root Rot, Stem Rot, Collar Rot, Leaf Spots Various pathogens

Research has shown that using P. fluorescens can reduce bacterial wilt incidence in tomato plants to as low as 1.0%, and to 4.0% in chilli plants.

📝 Simple Guide to Application

Method Dosage & Mixing Steps
🧂 Seed Treatment Mix 8-10 grams of powder (or 10 ml of liquid) in 50 ml of water. Coat 1 kg of seeds thoroughly. Shade dry for 20-30 minutes before sowing.
🏡 Nursery Seed Bed Mix 500 grams of powder in 50 liters of water. Drench the seedling trays/beds uniformly to protect young plants from damping off.
🚿 Root Dip (Before Transplanting) Mix 500 grams of powder in 50 liters of water. Dip the roots of the seedlings in this solution for 20-30 minutes before planting. For best results against Fusarium wilt, combine with other methods like soil drenching.
🌱 Soil Drenching Mix 1 to 2 kg of powder (or 1-2 liters of liquid) in 100-200 liters of water. Apply the solution near the root zone, using 500 ml per plant.
💧 Drip Irrigation Mix 1-2 liters of liquid in 100-200 liters of water and apply through the system for infection control and growth promotion.
🌿 Foliar Spray Mix 2-3 ml of liquid per liter of water. Spray the solution on the leaves, stems, and fruits of affected plants.

⚠️ Important Precautions

  • Maintain Shade & Soil Moisture: After application, keep the seeds/roots in the shade and maintain good soil moisture for the product to work best.

  • Use it as a Preventive: This is a preventive measure; apply it before disease takes hold for the best results.

  • Combine with Organic Matter: It works wonderfully with organic manures and other bio-fertilizers like Trichoderma.

  • Follow Proper Rotation in an IPM Plan: It can be used alongside chemical fungicides but should not be mixed with chemical antibiotics (like Streptocycline) or bactericides.

This simple, low-cost method is a powerful way to ensure your tomatoes and chillies get a healthy, disease-free start. Try it out and look forward to a great harvest.
