NPK Consortia for Cardamom – Better Yields, Lower Cost

Your cardamom plants need nitrogen for leaf growth, phosphorus for root and rhizome development, and potassium for capsule size and quality. The recommended dose for cardamom in Kerala is 75:75:150 kg NPK/ha per year. But in Idukki’s heavy monsoon, chemical fertilisers get washed away before your plants can use them. And the cost of urea, DAP, and MOP keeps rising.

NPK consortia provides all three nutrients through live microbes. The bacteria colonise your soil and root zone. They continuously fix nitrogen from the air, unlock locked phosphorus from the soil, and mobilise fixed potassium – making everything available to your cardamom plants exactly when needed.

What this means for your cardamom farm:

  • Stronger, greener leaves – better photosynthesis

  • Bigger, healthier rhizomes – more productive clumps

  • Larger capsules with better colour and aroma – higher market price

  • Less fertiliser leaching during monsoon – microbes hold nutrients in the root zone

Scientific proof: Studies show NPK consortia increases crop yield by 8–15 percent and reduces chemical fertiliser use by 25–30 percent. Farmers report up to 25 percent yield increase and better quality produce.

How to use on cardamom:

  • Soil application: Mix 1‑2 litres of NPK consortia liquid with 200‑500 kg well‑decomposed FYM. Apply in the basin of each clump. Repeat every 3‑4 months.

  • Through drip: Mix 1‑2 litres per acre in 200 litres of water and apply through fertigation every 20‑30 days.
