NPK Consortia for Black Pepper – Bigger Berries, Higher Price
Share
Idukki's black pepper is world-famous. But pepper vines are heavy feeders – they are known as a "luxury plant" that consumes nutrients in large numbers. Without proper nutrition, vines become weak, produce small berries, low yield, and become more susceptible to quick wilt disease. And with chemical fertiliser prices rising, many farmers are struggling.
NPK consortia provides continuous, balanced nutrition to your pepper vines. The nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the consortia capture atmospheric nitrogen and feed your vines directly. The PSB unlock bound phosphorus from the soil, which is crucial for root growth and flowering. The KMB mobilise fixed potassium in the soil, which is essential for berry size, colour, and pungency.
What this means for your pepper farm:
-
Bigger, heavier pepper berries – higher market price
-
More spikes per vine – increased yield
-
Stronger vines – more resistant to quick wilt disease
-
Better flavour and pungency – from improved potassium nutrition
Scientific proof: Microbial consortia have been shown to be more effective than individual isolates in enhancing all growth parameters of black pepper. Studies report yield increases of 15–25 percent and chemical fertiliser savings of up to 30 percent.
How to use on black pepper:
-
Soil application: Mix 1‑2 litres of NPK consortia liquid with 200‑500 kg well‑decomposed FYM. Apply in the basin around each vine. Repeat every 3‑4 months.
-
Through drip: Mix 1‑2 litres per acre in 200 litres of water and apply through drip irrigation every 20‑30 days.
-
For young vines: Dip roots in NPK consortia solution (10 ml per litre water) before planting.
