Verticillium Lecanii for Black Pepper – Control Thrips, Aphids & Mealybugs

Kollam’s black pepper is famous for its pungency and aroma. But thrips are the most damaging pest – they rasp the surface of developing berries, causing brown, corky scars. Once scarred, berries cannot be sold as whole black pepper and fetch a much lower price. Aphids and mealybugs also weaken vines.

Chemical pesticides often fail because thrips hide inside flower buds and develop resistance. They also leave residues that can get your export shipment rejected.

Verticillium lecanii is the natural, export‑safe solution.

Verticillium infects thrips, aphids, and mealybugs through contact. The spores germinate, penetrate the cuticle, and kill the pest within 3‑7 days. It leaves zero chemical residues – perfect for export‑quality pepper.

How to apply Verticillium on black pepper:

Preventive soil application (twice a year):

  • Take 200‑250g of Bactostore’s Verticillium powder per vine

  • Mix with 20‑25 kg of well‑decomposed FYM

  • Apply in the basin around the vine (15‑20 cm from the trunk)

  • Cover lightly with soil

  • Apply in April‑May (pre‑monsoon) and September‑October (post‑monsoon)

Foliar spray for active infestation:

  • For liquid: Mix 2‑5 ml in 1 litre of water

  • For powder: Mix 5‑10g in 1 litre of water, add a little jaggery for better adhesion

  • Spray thoroughly on leaves (both sides), stems, spikes, and developing berries

  • Pay special attention to the underside of leaves and flower buds

  • Spray in early morning or late evening

  • Apply every 10‑15 days during flowering and berry development

Root dip for young pepper cuttings (before planting):

  • Mix 10g of powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water

  • Dip roots for 10 minutes before planting
