Trichoderma for Vegetables & Paddy – Stop Damping‑Off, Wilt & Sheath Blight
ಹಂಚಿ
Kollam’s vegetable farmers grow brinjal, tomato, chilli, okra, beans, and cucurbits. Paddy is cultivated in low‑lying areas. But soil‑borne diseases are a constant headache. One morning your seedlings are fine; the next day they have collapsed at the base – that’s damping‑off. Later in the season, plants suddenly wilt and die – Fusarium or Phytophthora wilt. Paddy fields develop brown lesions on leaf sheaths – sheath blight.
Trichoderma is your organic shield.
What KAU recommends:
The KAU Agri Infotech Portal recommends seed treatment with Trichoderma @ 5‑10g/kg seed for vegetables and @ 10g/kg seed for paddy. Native Trichoderma isolates from Kerala are proven effective against all these diseases.
How to apply Trichoderma for vegetables:
Seed treatment (before sowing):
-
Mix 5‑10g of Bactostore’s Trichoderma powder per kg of seeds with enough water to coat
-
Shade dry for 30 minutes, then sow
Nursery bed drench (to prevent damping‑off):
-
Mix 5g of powder (or 5 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Drench the nursery bed soil before sowing
Root dip for seedlings (before transplanting):
-
Mix 10g of powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Dip seedling roots for 10 minutes before transplanting
Soil drench for established plants (every 2‑3 months):
-
Mix 100‑200g of powder (or 100‑200 ml liquid) in 10 litres of water
-
Drench around the root zone
How to apply Trichoderma for paddy:
Seed treatment (most effective):
-
Take 100g of Bactostore’s Trichoderma powder (or 100 ml liquid)
-
Mix with enough water to coat 10 kg of paddy seeds
-
Stir evenly, shade dry for 30 minutes, then sow
Soil application (for fields with history of sheath blight):
-
Mix 1‑2 kg of powder with 100‑200 kg FYM per acre
-
Broadcast during last ploughing
Results: Healthy seedlings, no damping‑off, reduced wilt, stronger paddy stems, higher yields.
