Trichoderma for Tea Plantation Soil Health in Assam | Biological Biofungicide & Root-Zone Management Supplier India

Tea plantations in Assam operate under warm, humid and high-rainfall conditions, with tea plants remaining in the same soil for many years. Because tea is a perennial crop, maintaining a biologically active root zone and good soil conditions is an important part of long-term plantation management.

Trichoderma spp. are beneficial fungi widely used in agriculture for biological soil and root-zone management. Selected species such as Trichoderma viride, Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma asperellum can colonize the rhizosphere and interact with other microorganisms present around plant roots.

For tea plantations, Trichoderma can be incorporated into an Integrated Disease Management (IDM) and soil-health program alongside drainage management, organic matter, balanced nutrition and appropriate crop-protection practices.

Why Trichoderma for Tea Plantations?

Tea plantations can develop complex microbial communities because of perennial root systems, high soil moisture, organic residues and continuous cultivation.

Selected Trichoderma strains are capable of establishing themselves in the rhizosphere and competing with certain undesirable fungi for nutrients and colonization sites.

Their biological mechanisms may include mycoparasitism, microbial competition, production of enzymes and antifungal metabolites, and interactions with plant defense responses.

The actual performance depends on the Trichoderma species and strain, formulation quality, viable population, target pathogen, soil conditions and application strategy.

Trichoderma for Soil-Borne Pathogen Management

Selected Trichoderma strains have antagonistic activity against various soil-associated fungal pathogens.

Agricultural Trichoderma programs are commonly considered where organisms such as certain Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Pythium and Sclerotium species are relevant.

However, disease symptoms in tea should be correctly diagnosed before treatment. Trichoderma should not automatically be recommended for every root, stem or leaf disease.

It works best as a preventive biological component of an integrated program, rather than as a guaranteed curative treatment for severely affected plants.

Trichoderma with Organic Matter

Well-decomposed compost and suitable organic matter can provide favorable conditions for beneficial soil microorganisms.

Depending on product directions, Trichoderma powder may be incorporated with well-decomposed FYM, compost or another suitable organic carrier before root-zone application.

Adequate moisture after application can help microbial establishment, but excessive waterlogging should be avoided.

Trichoderma + Pseudomonas fluorescens

Pseudomonas fluorescens is a beneficial rhizobacterium commonly used in microbial crop-management programs.

Trichoderma and Pseudomonas have different biological characteristics and can be incorporated into a broader tea root-zone program where appropriate.

Compatibility should be verified before mixing concentrated microbial formulations in the same tank. Separate applications are preferable where compatibility information is unavailable.

Trichoderma + Bacillus subtilis

Bacillus subtilis is another beneficial microorganism used in biological crop-protection programs.

A plantation strategy may incorporate Trichoderma, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis at appropriate stages to provide different microbial functions.

Using more organisms does not automatically produce better results. Correct strains, viable CFU, application timing and suitable environmental conditions remain essential.

Available Formulations

Peak Laboratories, India manufactures microbial agricultural products including Trichoderma formulations.

Depending on commercial requirements, Trichoderma may be available as liquid formulations, talc-based wettable powders and water-soluble/dextrose-based microbial powders.

Products can be supplied for tea estates, tea gardens, plantation groups, agricultural dealers, distributors, FPOs and bulk commercial requirements.
