Paecilomyces lilacinus for Banana (Nematode Control)
ಹಂಚಿ
What it does:
Paecilomyces lilacinus is a beneficial fungus that attacks and kills nematode eggs, juveniles, and adult females. In banana, it is highly effective against root‑knot nematodes (Meloidogyne) and burrowing nematodes (Radopholus similis), which cause toppling disease, root rot, and poor bunch development.
How to use in banana:
-
Soil application (powder): Mix 2–4 kg of P. lilacinus powder with 500 kg well‑decomposed FYM or compost. Broadcast per acre at planting, then again at 3 months and 5 months.
-
Drench / Drip (liquid): Mix 2–3 L of liquid formulation in 200 L water. Apply near the root zone at planting and repeat every 2–3 months.
-
Sucker / tissue culture plant treatment: Dip roots and corm in P. lilacinus solution (20 g powder or 20 ml liquid per litre water) for 15 minutes before planting.
Best time:
At planting for prevention, then every 2–3 months during vegetative growth. Nematode pressure is highest in sandy soils and after continuous banana cropping.
Precautions:
Do not mix with chemical nematicides or fungicides. Keep soil moist after application.
