Buy Beauveria Bassiana for Arecanut – Control White Grubs, Inflorescence Caterpillar and Leafhoppers
ಹಂಚಿ
Arecanut is a major cash crop in Kozhikode's midland areas. But white grubs (root grubs) are a constant threat. These C‑shaped, pale white larvae feed on tender roots, causing yellowing of the lower fronds (friar's leaf), reduced nut yield, and eventual palm death. Inflorescence caterpillar damages flowers and developing nuts, directly reducing yield. Leafhoppers suck sap, causing yellowing and reduced vigour. Chemical control is difficult – grubs live deep in the soil, and caterpillars hide inside the spadix.
Beauveria bassiana is your organic solution for multiple arecanut pests.
How Beauveria works against arecanut pests:
-
For white grubs: The fungal spores are mixed with FYM and applied to the soil. When grubs come into contact, the fungus germinates, penetrates the cuticle, and kills them within 3‑7 days. Greenish‑white fungal growth appears on the dead grub, spreading spores to other grubs.
-
For inflorescence caterpillar: Spray on the spadix. Spores infect caterpillars feeding on flowers and developing nuts.
-
For leafhoppers: Spores infect through contact, killing them within days.
How to apply Beauveria on arecanut:
Individual palm treatment (for white grubs and root pests):
-
Take 200‑250g of Bactostore's Beauveria powder per adult palm
-
Mix with 20‑25 kg of well‑decomposed FYM
-
Apply in the basin around the palm (1‑1.5 metre radius) and cover with soil
-
Apply twice a year – pre‑monsoon (April‑May) and post‑monsoon (September‑October)
-
For young palms (below 5 years), use half the dose (100‑125g)
Broadcast method (for whole garden):
-
Take 2‑4 kg of Bactostore's Beauveria powder per acre
-
Mix with 200‑400 kg of well‑decomposed FYM or cow dung
-
Broadcast the mixture evenly in the arecanut garden, in the basins around each palm
-
Incorporate lightly into the soil (top 5‑10 cm)
-
Apply twice a year
For inflorescence caterpillar (foliar spray):
-
Mix 2‑5 ml of Beauveria liquid (or 5‑10g powder) in 1 litre of water
-
Spray on the spadix (inflorescence) during flowering
-
Apply every 10‑15 days during the flowering season
For leafhoppers (foliar spray):
-
Mix 2‑5 ml of Beauveria liquid (or 5‑10g powder) in 1 litre of water
-
Spray on both sides of fronds, especially the underside
-
Apply every 15‑20 days during active infestation
