Trichoderma for Banana – Control Fusarium Wilt (Panama Disease) & Rhizome Rot

Have you noticed your Nendran or Robusta banana plants turning yellow, then brown, and finally collapsing? That’s Fusarium wilt (Panama disease) – caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense. This fungus lives in the soil for decades. There is no effective chemical cure. Once it’s in your field, you can’t grow susceptible bananas for years.

Trichoderma is your only hope – and it works.

What Kerala research proves:
A study under Kerala conditions found that an integrated approach using Trichoderma viride‑enriched cow dung at the time of planting was one of the best strategies for managing Fusarium wilt. Trichoderma colonises the root zone and directly attacks the Fusarium fungus.

How to apply Trichoderma on banana:

Sucker treatment (before planting):

  • Mix 10g of Bactostore’s Trichoderma powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water

  • Dip the base of the banana sucker or tissue‑culture plantlet for 10‑15 minutes

  • Shade dry for 30 minutes before planting

Pit treatment (at planting):

  • Take 200‑250g of Trichoderma powder per pit

  • Mix with 10‑15 kg of well‑decomposed FYM

  • Incorporate into the pit soil

Soil drench for existing plants (every 2‑3 months):

  • Mix 200‑250g of powder (or 200‑250 ml liquid) in 10 litres of water

  • Drench around the root zone

Important: Remove and destroy plants that are already fully infected. Trichoderma works best as a preventive and for early‑stage infections.

Farmer testimonial:

“Panama disease was destroying our Nendran crop. We started dipping suckers in Bactostore Trichoderma liquid and drenching the soil. Disease incidence has dropped significantly.” – Radhika, Kollam.
