Mango Biofertilizers, Biofungicides & Biopesticides for Higher Fruit Yield, Brix and Export Quality

Mango (Mangifera indica) is the king of fruits and one of the world's most valuable tropical fruit crops. It is cultivated for domestic consumption, processing and export. Producing healthy trees with profuse flowering, excellent fruit set, large fruits, high sweetness (Brix) and long shelf life requires balanced nutrition, healthy root systems and effective disease and pest management. Integrating biofertilizers, biofungicides and biopesticides provides a sustainable cultivation system that improves nutrient availability, strengthens plant health and naturally suppresses diseases and insect pests while improving long-term soil fertility.

Beneficial microorganisms colonize the mango rhizosphere and continuously improve nutrient cycling, enabling vigorous root growth, healthy canopy development and consistent fruit production season after season.

Azotobacter fixes atmospheric nitrogen and supplies biologically available nitrogen for healthy vegetative growth and flowering. Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) convert unavailable phosphorus into plant-available forms, promoting stronger roots, better flowering and higher fruit set. Potassium Mobilizing Bacteria (KMB) improve potassium availability, resulting in larger fruits, higher sugar accumulation, better color development and longer shelf life. NPK Microbial Consortia provide continuous nutrient mobilization throughout the growing season.

Micronutrient-solubilizing microorganisms further improve orchard productivity. Zinc Solubilizing Bacteria enhance chlorophyll synthesis, enzyme activity and flowering. Sulphur Oxidizing Bacteria improve sulphur availability for protein synthesis, fruit quality and aroma. Mycorrhiza (AMF) expands the effective root system, increasing phosphorus uptake, water absorption and drought tolerance. Silicon Solubilizing Bacteria strengthen plant tissues, improve tolerance to heat, drought and salinity while enhancing fruit quality.

Mango is susceptible to diseases including powdery mildew, anthracnose, bacterial canker, dieback, stem-end rot, sooty mould and gummosis. These diseases reduce flowering, fruit retention, fruit quality and export value.

Beneficial microorganisms naturally suppress disease-causing pathogens while improving plant immunity. Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma asperellum effectively suppress soil-borne fungal pathogens and improve root health. Pseudomonas fluorescens functions as a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium (PGPR), reducing disease incidence and inducing systemic resistance. Bacillus subtilis produces natural antimicrobial compounds that suppress fungal and bacterial pathogens. Pseudomonas putida and Streptomyces lydicus further improve rhizosphere health and long-term disease suppression.

Major insect pests include mango hopper, mealybugs, fruit flies, stem borers, thrips, scale insects, termites, white grubs and root-knot nematodes. These pests reduce flowering, fruit quality and overall productivity.

Beauveria bassiana effectively suppresses mango hoppers, mealybugs and fruit flies. Lecanicillium lecanii provides excellent biological control of aphids, mealybugs, scale insects and whiteflies. Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (BTK) controls leaf-eating caterpillars. Metarhizium anisopliae effectively manages termites, stem borers and white grubs. Purpureocillium lilacinum and Pochonia chlamydosporia suppress root-knot nematodes, promoting healthy feeder roots and improved nutrient uptake.

Applying microbial products through basin application, drip irrigation, root-zone drenching and organic manure enrichment enables beneficial microorganisms to establish around the root system. Combined with balanced fertilization, irrigation and canopy management, biological crop management improves nutrient-use efficiency, enhances flowering and supports sustainable mango production.
