Unlocking Citrus Orchard Yields: How PSB & KMB Bacteria Maximize Fruit Size, Juice Content, and Rind Quality

Citrus crops—including acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia), sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), and mandarin (Citrus reticulata)—require a constant supply of major nutrients across multiple flush and fruiting cycles (Aambya, Mrig, and Hasta Bahar). Phosphorus (P) is crucial during initial root establishment, canopy vegetative flushes, and early flower bud differentiation, while potassium (K) is the dominant driver for fruit expansion, juice accumulation, rind skin smoothness, and citric acid/sugar balance.

In many citrus-growing soils, high pH or excessive calcium carbonate rapidly binds applied phosphatic fertilizers into insoluble calcium phosphates, while potassium gets locked inside clay lattices. Inoculating the orchard root zone with Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) (Bacillus megaterium) and Potassium Mobilizing Bacteria (KMB) (Frateuria aurantia) unlocks these critical reserves:

  • Uniform Flowering & Reduced Fruit Drop: PSB secretes low-molecular-weight organic acids (such as citric and gluconic acids) that solubilize fixed calcium phosphates into orthophosphate, improving flower panicle vigor, fruit set percentage, and early fruit retention,

  • Superior Fruit Sizing & Higher Juice Content: KMB converts insoluble silicate and potassium minerals into plant-available, facilitating rapid osmotic water transport into expanding fruit vesicles to boost overall juice recovery and uniform grade size,

  • Improved Rind Quality & Extended Shelf Life: Bioavailable potassium strengthened by microbial colonization thickens cell walls within the flavedo and albedo, reducing fruit cracking, peel pitting, and post-harvest storage decay,

  • Tree Vigor & Stress Tolerance: Continuous secretion of microbial enzymes and natural plant growth regulators supports healthy feeder root extension, helping citrus trees withstand temperature stress and heavy crop load depletion.
