Streptomyces Lydicus for Drip Irrigation in Mango
शेयर करना
Drip irrigation has become the preferred irrigation method for commercial mango orchards because it delivers water precisely to the root zone while improving water-use efficiency and reducing operational costs. This system also provides an excellent method for applying beneficial biological products directly where they are needed most. Streptomyces lydicus is a beneficial soil bacterium and biological biofungicide that performs effectively when applied through drip irrigation, helping establish a healthy rhizosphere while naturally protecting roots from soil-borne fungal pathogens.
When introduced through a drip irrigation system, Streptomyces lydicus is carried directly into the wetted root zone where feeder roots are actively growing. The microorganism colonizes the rhizosphere, competes with harmful fungi for nutrients and root colonization sites, and produces naturally occurring antimicrobial compounds that suppress pathogens including Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, Pythium, and Phytophthora. Uniform distribution through the drip system allows beneficial microbial populations to establish consistently throughout the orchard.
Healthy feeder roots improve the absorption of water along with essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, boron, and iron. Better root function supports vigorous vegetative growth, balanced flowering, stronger fruit set, improved fruit development, and higher fertilizer use efficiency. Healthy roots also increase resilience against temporary drought, irrigation interruptions, and other environmental stresses commonly experienced in commercial mango orchards.
For optimum results, Streptomyces lydicus should be applied through a clean drip irrigation system using non-chlorinated or low-chlorine water whenever possible. It integrates well with Trichoderma, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus velezensis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Azotobacter, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium mobilizing bacteria (KMB), zinc-solubilizing bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi, and organic soil amendments. Avoid mixing it directly with incompatible chemical fungicides or strong oxidizing agents in the same irrigation tank unless compatibility has been verified by the product manufacturer.
Commercial mango growers increasingly adopt drip irrigation-based biological programs because they combine efficient water management with targeted delivery of beneficial microorganisms. By improving root protection, enhancing nutrient uptake, strengthening soil biology, and supporting sustainable orchard management, Streptomyces lydicus helps produce healthier trees, higher yields, improved fruit quality, and long-term soil productivity. It is suitable for conventional, integrated, organic, and regenerative mango farming systems.
