Arecanut gardens and vegetable farms are important sources of income in Malappuram. But arecanut suffers from nut drop and small kernels due to nutrient imbalances. Vegetables struggle with low yields and high input costs. Chemical NPK is expensive, and in our heavy rains, much is lost through leaching.
NPK consortia changes the economics of arecanut and vegetable farming.
For arecanut:
Soil application (pre‑monsoon and post‑monsoon):
-
Take 200‑250g of Bactostore's NPK consortia powder per adult palm
-
Mix with 20‑25 kg of well‑decomposed FYM
-
Apply in the basin around the palm (1‑1.5 metre radius) and cover with soil
-
Apply twice a year
For nut drop during monsoon:
-
In addition to soil application, drench the root zone with NPK consortia liquid (200‑250 ml in 10 litres water) once a month during the monsoon
For vegetables:
Soil application at land preparation:
-
Mix 1‑2 kg of Bactostore's NPK consortia powder (or 1‑2 litres liquid) with 100‑200 kg well‑decomposed FYM per acre
-
Broadcast evenly during land preparation and incorporate into topsoil
Nursery bed drench:
-
Mix 5g of powder (or 5 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Drench the nursery bed soil before sowing
Root dip for seedlings (before transplanting):
-
Mix 10g of powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Dip seedling roots for 10 minutes before transplanting
Soil drench for established plants (every 2‑3 months):
-
Mix 100‑200g of powder (or 100‑200 ml liquid) in 10 litres of water
-
Drench around the root zone
What you'll see: In arecanut – reduced nut drop, heavier kernels, greener fronds. In vegetables – more flowers, better fruit set, larger fruits, higher yields.
