Streptomyces Lydicus for Rhizosphere Protection in Mango
शेयर करना
The rhizosphere is the narrow region of soil surrounding plant roots where thousands of beneficial microorganisms interact with the root system every day. It is one of the most biologically active zones in a mango orchard and plays a critical role in nutrient absorption, root development, disease suppression, and overall tree health. When the rhizosphere is dominated by beneficial microbes, mango trees grow more vigorously and become naturally more resilient to soil-borne diseases. Streptomyces lydicus is a highly beneficial biofungicide that protects this vital root environment while promoting long-term soil health and orchard productivity.
Following soil application through drenching, fertigation, or drip irrigation, Streptomyces lydicus rapidly establishes itself around the feeder roots. It colonizes the rhizosphere by utilizing root exudates as an energy source, allowing it to multiply and form a protective microbial barrier around the root system. This biological barrier limits the establishment of harmful fungi by competing for nutrients, colonization sites, and available space. Streptomyces lydicus also produces naturally occurring antimicrobial compounds that suppress several disease-causing fungi responsible for root infections and declining tree health.
A protected rhizosphere allows feeder roots to develop more efficiently, increasing their capacity to absorb essential nutrients and water. Improved nutrient uptake supports stronger vegetative growth, healthier foliage, vigorous flowering, better fruit set, and improved fruit size. Trees with an active and balanced rhizosphere are also better able to tolerate environmental stresses such as drought, excessive rainfall, salinity, and transplant shock. This results in more consistent orchard performance throughout the growing season.
For maximum rhizosphere protection, Streptomyces lydicus should be integrated with a complete biological soil management program. Applications are most effective when combined with compost, organic matter, proper irrigation, and balanced fertilization. The microorganism works exceptionally well with Trichoderma, Bacillus spp., Pseudomonas fluorescens, Azotobacter, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium mobilizing bacteria (KMB), zinc-solubilizing bacteria, Paecilomyces lilacinus, and mycorrhizal fungi. Together these beneficial microorganisms establish a biologically rich rhizosphere that continuously supports nutrient cycling and disease suppression.
Commercial mango growers increasingly recognize the importance of protecting the rhizosphere rather than simply treating diseases after they appear. Regular application of Streptomyces lydicus helps maintain a healthy microbial balance, improves fertilizer use efficiency, enhances soil biodiversity, and promotes sustainable mango production. By protecting the root environment throughout the season, growers can produce stronger trees, higher-quality fruits, and more profitable orchards while reducing reliance on repeated chemical fungicide applications.
