Buy Beauveria Bassiana Bio-Insecticide for Banana – Endophytic Control of Pseudostem Weevil and Root Weevil
शेयर करना
Pseudostem weevil larvae bore inside the banana pseudostem, creating tunnels that eventually collapse the plant. Root weevil larvae feed on the corm. Chemical drenches and sprays cannot reach the larvae inside the pseudostem or the corm.
Beauveria bassiana offers endophytic protection – the fungus grows inside the plant tissue and kills pests from within.
How endophytic Beauveria works in banana: When applied as a root dip or injection, the fungus enters the plant’s vascular system and colonises the pseudostem and corm. When weevil larvae feed, they ingest the fungus and become infected. The infected larvae stop feeding and die within 3‑7 days. The fungus then sporulates inside the tunnels, infecting other larvae.
Application methods:
Sucker treatment (before planting):
-
Mix 10g of Bactostore’s Beauveria powder (or 10 ml liquid) in 1 litre of water
-
Dip the base of the banana sucker or tissue‑culture plantlet for 15 minutes
-
Shade dry for 30 minutes before planting
-
This establishes the fungus in the corm from the start.
Pseudostem injection (KAU method):
-
Mix 20g of Beauveria powder in 1 litre of water
-
Using a syringe, inject 10‑15 ml into the pseudostem at 3‑4 points about 30 cm above ground
-
Apply at 5 months after planting (135 days)
-
Repeat at 6th and 7th months for continuous protection.
Pit treatment for root weevils:
-
Take 200‑250g of Beauveria powder per pit
-
Mix with 10‑15 kg of well‑decomposed FYM and incorporate into the pit soil before planting.
